Summer is officially here. …and as you may have guessed, the young ladies of Simpson Academy are now on summer break. Over the next few months there will most likely be very few submissions from the young ladies; however, we do plan on updating the main blog with stories, news, etc. As always, feel free to stop by, check out the updates, and leave some feedback.
At this time I would like to give thanks to everyone who has contributed to TeenMomShoutOut over the past months, especially the young mothers who allowed us into their lives. It has been an amazing experience to see the growth and self-exploration of these young women. I would also like to thank those of you who have joined us during this time; whether it has been through reading/commenting or directly supporting the blog and the young women. Your support has really made this experience that much more powerful. We hope you continue to support TeenMomShoutOut and other programs created to assist young parents.
Have a fantastic, and safe, summer!! (don’t forget about us here at TMSO and be sure to check back in once in a while)
Take care!
TeenMomShoutOut would like to give a big thanks to all of our readers and supporters who came out for the RealEyesMoms event. It was a great success! We all very much enjoyed your support and discussion around the pieces of art.
Also, don’t forget to check out these most recent updated blogs…
Thanks again for all your support!! Enjoy the sunshine!
We wanted to take a minute and fill you in on an amazing project that the ladies of Simpson have been hard at work finishing up!
On May 13th, we will be having an art show at Dal-Tile, 316 W Hubbard in Chicago!
The ladies have been working on mosaiced silhouettes of themselves for many weeks now. These life sized works of art represent the amazing stories of the ladies lives and experiences!
To find out more about the event and to register to attend, please go to http://realeyesmoms.eventbrite.com/
Real Eyes Moms is an artistic exploration of self identity.
This collaborative project between Green Star Movement,
The Night Ministry and Alternatives, Inc. guides
young women to explore the stories behind their lives as
young pregnant, parenting and, all too often, homeless women.
We cordially invite you to join us in celebrating the creativity and resilience of the young women who created the Real Eyes Moms art exhibition.
This event is sponsored by Alternatives, Inc., Green Star Movement, The Night Ministry, Daltile, KattenMuchinRosenman LLP and RG Custom Signs & Graphics
Hello readers!
The ladies have been writing about a variety of topics. Most of the topics have been centralized around motherhood… from what they’ve done to prepare for motherhood to what they’re looking forward to most.
Also, we’d like to introduce a few new members to the TeenMomShoutOut community! Please help us welcome Anita, Babyboy, Brooke, Myesha, and Nicole by visiting their newest posts and leaving some comments!
Enjoy!!!
Check out these actively posting ladies this week! They are writing up a storm! Why not swing by and give them a little encouragement. Leave a comment, ask a question or two, just keep them going and let them know that you are eager to hear more from them!!!
Hellooo All!
We are excited to report that our first newsletters have been printed. We will be providing a link to download a PDF version, so watch for that! Your comments and suggestions are appreciated.
So, here we are, towards the end of January, with many new blogs! The past few weeks we have given the ladies various topics to write about. Check them out:
Charisse, Kierra, and Latrese share their recent birthing experiences and talk about their babies!
As a soon to be mother, Verenice talks about how important her own parents are and all of the things she wishes she could do for them.
Lakiesha asks for guidance through her current relationship troubles.
Biviany discusses how her outlook has changed since becoming pregnant.
Shopping, ice skating, hanging out with family… Roshunda and Diamond give us some insight into what they enjoy doing in their spare time.
Names, names, names! What’s in a name?? Check out Diamond and Shakeya’s blogs and read about how they chose their child’s names.
Biviany, Lakiesha, Shakeya, and Verenice wrote about their individual opinions on the range of birthing options; and Jay provided us with a link to more information on the subject.
As always, your support is greatly appreciated!!! … And please, let the ladies know that you’re out there reading and leave your questions/thoughts/comments!
The ladies are busy planning and preparing for their upcoming newsletter release. We have three days of classtime left to get it out and on time. They are certainly learning the pressure of deadlines!
We have a few new additions to our class this week. Biviany introduced herself this week and took a little time away from her in class work for you to get to know her.
We also get introduced this week to Jay. Jay took time out to introduce herself and talk about some of the problems of being a new teen mom. She addresses some of the pressures that she faces and what it’s like to be pregnant at the same time as her mother.
Jomanda has been having labor pains and she describes the experience with honesty. Luckily they stopped her labor but you can tell that this little glimpse into what lies ahead is a scary pondering.
Latay writes this week about how she feels and what she thinks about teen pregnancy. Her ideas may be a little controversial to some, but I think it’s an insightful expression about what is going on in the world around her and how she feel about it.
Mariah wrote three entries this week in preperation for our upcoming newsletter. As always her writing is honest, refreshing and insightful. She has a really great poem about being pregnant and an amazing look into her world and how she feels about being pregnant. Amazing posts from an amazing lady.
Dominique just started out this week and wrote two posts!! She took the time to introduce herself this week. She also wrote a second post about her goals for the week. Her daughter’s father is coming home this weekend and she expresses her feeling about the event. Please welcome her and show her some support in a comment or two!!
Delwanna also wrote her first post over the holiday! In her introduction she describes a bit about her day as a teen mom, from getting up at 6 A.M to getting her son to daycare and herself to school. Show her a little support and encouragement in the comments!
Latay introduced herself last week, but then flew under the radar and wrote an extra post over the weekend expressing her feelings. I hope that you can swing by and encourage her to turn here if she ever needs to vent again. I hope the quiet weekend of responses won’t discourage her. So comment and show her that we are all eager to hear more and want to get to know her!
Most of the ladies wrote about their goals this week. Both long term and short, the girls wrote about hopes, dreams, and future aspirations. Why not visit all the ladies blogs below and show them that you hope that they do what it takes to achieve all those noble goals!
